One of our goals at Accelerate Women Leaders in Travel is to create community for our retreat participants. We have heard time and time again how much impact our yearly retreat has on this goal. Participants walk away from our 24 hours together seeking more! Based on feedback from our yearly surveys we have added group coaching sessions, and this year, we added two meet-ups to connect upcoming participants before the retreat.
This past October we held our first meet-up hosted by board member Heather Durant. Heather created a casual and fun environment with whole group discussions and break-out rooms. We started with sharing what developments have happened in our lives and work since the previous Accelerate retreat and the vacations we have been on or are planning to take. Following the larger group discussion, we headed into breakout rooms to discuss resources that we would recommend to others. These included many great books and podcasts. With the holidays approaching, perhaps you are thinking about your wish list. Or maybe you are starting to develop your learning goals for 2024. Here are some great resources that our participants shared! Books: Founder Brand by Dave Gerhardt Earning it by Joann Lublin Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara Who Moved My Cheese The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Madino Power of Now and The New Earth by Eckhart Tolle The Four Agreements Don Miguel Ruiz Website/other resource: Marie Forleo Hertelier Podcasts: Inside Job Hospitality Daily Mel Robbins Alan Watts RumbleStrip Our first meet-up was a fabulous success. We hope you will join us in February for our next one! Stay tuned for details. Register now for Accelerate Women Leaders in Travel 2024 to take advantage of this participant benefit. We would also love to have your input to shape the next session. Fill out our survey here.

The pandemic has been especially hard on women as many have had to opt out or reduce hours for the purposes of caregiving—caring for children, elders or friends. Some women have lost their jobs because of the shifts in the labor market. But women have also found success in the workforce and have seen progress as well—from demonstrating effective leadership to positively influencing their organizations. Read More
We all struggle with stress, anxiety, and other difficult emotions. But it can be tough to figure out what to do with these feelings, especially if we’re the ones who are supposed to be leading and supporting others. To achieve — and sustain — success, many companies place extraordinary demands on their teams. World-renowned investment banks, law firms, and consulting firms are notorious for subjecting employees to grueling workdays. Software developers use the word “crunch” to describe the long, stressful hours of work that are often required in the final weeks before a new product launch. Read More
Think back to the last time you took public transportation. What were most people doing? If it’s anything like the planes, trains, buses and subways I ride (or used to ride pre-pandemic), people probably generally kept to themselves. Whether working or scrolling through a mundane social media feed on their smartphones, most people I observe are simply in their own little world. But what if you were forced to interact with strangers? Read More
Operating a business with a third of your staff and record-breaking revenue will teach you a few things about yourself. The return of travel is a welcome change, but the labor shortage conditions are like a new kind of pandemic. After working hard for long hours and toughing it out, we at least expect success. However, more often than not, at the end of the day we are exhausted and still have a long list of tasks to complete. Why does this happen? According to the authors, working adults have a fundamental misunderstanding of what it means to be resilient. Yes, resilience involves working hard, but it also requires one to stop, recover, and then begin the hard work again. Recovery is key to maintaining good health, but also preventing lost productivity. To build resilience, you need to be willing to stop. This means spending some time away from your phone, eating lunch away from your desk, and actually using your vacation time. Read More
How Women Can Develop - and Promote- Their Personal Brand
We all know developing a personal brand is valuable. It helps others see your true talents, so you’re more likely to be tapped for relevant and interesting assignments — and it helps you stand out in a field of competitors. But personal branding has some unique challenges for female professionals. Gender norms presume that women should be agreeable and nurturing, and when they violate these norms through self-promotion and decisiveness, they’re often penalized for that behavior in a way that men wouldn’t be. How can women navigate this conundrum? First, network both inside and outside your organization, so you have a diverse set of people who can step up on your behalf. Next, control your narrative by developing a clear and concise elevator pitch. Finally, share your ideas publicly and display your expertise through content creation. Read More.
